“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not: unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” (Calvin Coolidge)
Tim Isaacs is an ophthalmologist at RPH and Lions Eye Institute, specialising in retinal and cataract surgery. He is lucky enough to have four healthy daughters who ensure that he is never bored.
“I saw a flyer for the Mont Blanc project and immediately knew I wanted to be part of the team. I love the mountains and am attracted by the physical challenge, but the main motivation for me is the opportunity to contribute to those families who are afflicted with a diagnosis of childhood cancer. I see this as a way of acknowledging my own good fortune, and by involving my children in the fundraising process I hope to raise their own awareness of the importance of philanthropy, generosity and community involvement. If a middle-aged man can climb Mont Blanc, then anything is possible!”
